What exactly is the purpose of a government? I mean, think about it. The government is formed for the people, to protect the people, and allow the average citizen to live their life in a way that does not harm others.
At least, that is a very basic overview of my idea behind government and why it exists.
We could always get into an individual need for power over others or a wish to simply control the masses in a set area but the general intention is to make life better for the people within that government.
Am I patriotic?
In a sense, yes. I believe in supporting the people who wish to help a general group of people live their best lives without harm to others. I believe in the freedom to live, speak out against adversity, and repercussions for bad behavior that harms others.
Do I always support the feelings reflected within the country I live? No. Thankfully, in the US, it is possible to stand up and say, “I’m sick of this behavior/law/action,” without being shot for having an opinion. If you’re shot for that exact reason, it is a form of hate crime and the perpetrator will be punished for the crime.
Not all countries are perfect.
There is so much the United States has wrong but there is so much that they have right. I think I appreciate most that the representatives in government are pushed to do what their constituents wish simply because the masses have spoken.
Does that mean the hivemind of any one group within the government is always correct? No. However, it gives you the ability to fight for the rights you want and change the minds of others, eventually working your way up into the government agenda for change.
I think people forget they can cause change. It won’t happen immediately but the option is there.
Yes, I am patriotic and proud.
I have the right to do good unto others. I care about the basis behind the creation of the United States of America and I care about the people within. I care about the fact people can influence government and make changes with enough support behind them to fight for it.
This matters to me immensely.
