Gratitude Jar 2025: February 21

1–2 minutes

I am grateful I saw the semi before it crushed my car with me in it!

Oh, yesterday was testing the heck out of me!

I had a morning appointment an hour and a half from home and the freeway was icy. Even speeders were driving below the speed limit.

Around 30 minutes into my trip, my passenger side wiper flew off my car while in use. It was brand new and, as I later learned, cost $30.

I finally got ahold of my boyfriend after explaining what happened and needing to get a replacement due to weather conditions and the inability to see if I cannot use my wipers. He was in the middle of giving me the adult version of, “Go Play in Traffic…” due to cost because he wanted me to retrieve it when, while watching my mirrors, I suddenly realized that a semi had merged into my lane and was inches from merging right over my car, too.

Either this driver fell asleep at the wheel or did not check his blind spots.

With my boyfriend still on the line, I screamed and said, “OMG, a semi is trying to kill me!” I quickly looked and saw no one in the left lane (I was in the middle of a three lane section of freeway) before swerving over to avoid death.

… and then I proceeded to have a full panic attack with hyperventilation and all.

It took me a while to decompress after that whole situation. I told my dentist and her assistant, “If this doesn’t prove how badly I wanted my new teeth, I don’t know what does.”

So, yes, I am grateful to be alive today!
