You’re going on a cross-country trip. Airplane, train, bus, car, or bike?

This seems like an exceptionally short prompt today.

Firstly, I would go by car.

I do not like planes. I don’t like crowds (bus or train). I am also unlikely to hop on a bike to go down the driveway, nonetheless a cross-country trip. I haven’t been able to ride a bike since my knee surgery when I was 17.

The real question is where I would go. My first thought was to go see my daughter. She lives around 2 hours away from me in the suburb area of a major city. That hardly fits the descriptor of a cross-country anything. That is more of a hop and a skip within the same state.

I do know that I would head west. I would want to stop by Lake Michigan again. I went for my 36th birthday before stopping to see family in Illinois. My daughter was 16 and she had a blast swimming there. I felt bad asking her to leave when I did but the heat was making me sick and I was having a lot of trouble with the walk from the parking area to the lake (around half a mile or more away).

I also know that I would want to stop at random tourist traps and just enjoy the entire experience of exploring the things I may never see again.

My father was a truck driver when I was born and I traveled the country in the cab of a semi. These types of memories and experiences add to that feeling of living a full life. I love the experience of seeing new things and being in new places.
