And then I crocheted for a little bit…

What are your morning rituals? What does the first hour of your day look like?

Let’s Discuss

It is much too early for me to do my daily gratitude. Since my better half is still asleep, I am working in the dark from my “corner office.” A photo of my gratitude wouldn’t look as good. He should be awake after I am done with this, though. Then I can move on to it next.

The morning begins…

So, the first thing I do after waking up is lie in bed. No, really. I have osteoarthritis in my knees, and the lumbar variation of the same thing. They have broken way down, and I am in constant pain. When I first wake up in the morning, my routine begins with me trying to tell myself that lying in bed is not productive, even if my back does not want to move.

Lying turns into sitting on the edge of the bed, taking my morning medication, and drinking some water because I am thirsty. I have sleep apnea, and my CPAP is really good at making my mouth feel like the Sahara. It also serves as a break before I try standing up and moving. Often, I resemble a robot as I shuffle to the bathroom or the kitchen for more water. It requires a lot of mental preparation before physical motion can occur.

Bathroom and water is done, now what?

On my way to our private bathroom, I will turn on my computer. That way, after I have my water, I can sit down and get started with my day. I log into the things I need for my daily processes (i.e. BlueStacks, which is where I keep my row counting app for my crocheting, Phone Link, so I can deal with notifications through the day without opening my phone, I open my Lists tab group so I can check my to-do list and mindfulness practices, and I open my AJS tab group so I can update this blog).

I start by going down my mindfulness tasks to do my morning mantra, “today is a great day to have a great day,” and I check off my mindfulness reminders. These encompass things like reminding myself why I love my business or chose to go back to school. They help alleviate some stress when I have a hard day, school is intense, or my business feels exceptionally cumbersome.

This is the point where I do my gratitude and I answer the writing prompt if my day isn’t too full. Sometimes I just don’t like the prompt and opt not to answer. Either way, I begin there. It is my #1 favorite beginning to my day because it sets everything off on a positive note.

This next part…

What happens next can vary. I try to choose my first task of the day based on what I can do that will allow me to work and crochet for a bit. Whether it is to listen to chapters for school or some variation that will allow me to crochet while being productive.

Introducing my first task of the day with a relaxing variation really does make my life a little better. It helps me get off on the right foot for all the responsibilities I have to face.

Then I work…

I follow this routine because it promotes productivity. It creates the base mindset I need to face the day and do the things. I also try to take a short break during the day where I can do something enjoyable to relax. I get overwhelmed very easily, and that short break from my workload helps me reset and finish what needs my attention most.

I am addicted to FPS-style games. One that I fell in love with some years ago was Sniper Fury. It has the right mix of solo and some multiplayer aspects. I was never big on games that require a heavy amount of interaction. Sometimes I just like to shoot stuff without needing others to complete goals. I recently started playing again, and I will sometimes play while crocheting during the loading screens to redirect my mind when I am feeling extra burdened by life.
