When you discuss an MBA with a graduate academic counselor and find out that there is a DBA program, too…

3–4 minutes

First, a quick notification about the website. I changed the layout, and it now features the Mind Your Business newsletter. If you dropped by during the transition, I am sorry you had to deal with a very broken page.

Friday, when I realized the mobile view was absolutely destroyed, I knew I would have to figure it all out. My lovely OCD traits forced me to do something about this site first thing. I didn’t even manage to finish my class essay until after I fixed this blog.

The Blogging Entrepreneur holds a special place in my heart. I love writing here because it is where I can discuss all things relating to myself without fear. Myself without borders.

Now that I am done with my essay, I must start working on Stitched Delights. It is nagging at me. It is limited to fiber arts and mental health content, but that is a huge passion as well. I am mad it is broken. I think I am going to enlist this same layout, though. That way there is a cohesive appearance to the brand as a whole.

Thinking about an MBA

My academic counselor called me today to check in. I am not a problem student. I do have accommodations to help me when my physical health takes a dive. Still, I keep a good GPA. It is now a 3.57. I had a course a couple of classes back that was rocky. I had a really bad instructor experience on top of health struggles. It dropped my GPA some.

Either way, over-explaining aside, they like to check in to make sure I am holding it together as time progresses. Mostly, they want to make sure I don’t need extra help.

This opened the door for me to ask about the MBA program. I just wanted basic information because I am seriously considering it. I am still a year out from graduation, though. I will finish my requirements on my 41st birthday.

He connected me with the graduate program enrollment counselor to help answer my questions. I learned a few key points:

  • It is only a year and a half.
  • The program enlists my current business experience, essentially continuing in the same style as I am now.

I was working on my essay when he called. I set aside those thoughts and went back to work. After, though, I started to wonder if business had a doctoral-level program, too.

I was intrigued to learn something first. I can start signing, “Angela J Shupe, MBA,” after finishing that degree! For some reason, I thought they reserved that for the doctoral graduates.

They don’t. Three cheers for future bragging rights?

Then I discovered the DBA

This program is similar, it seems, in length to the MBA. It further dives into the informational side of business administration, and it is commonly attained by business consultants.

My goal is to create a business out of helping others with their own. I love business. I am passionate. I love content creation and I can extend into business consulting as an educational milestone. Well, a DBA would further increase my credibility and, quite honestly, income.

Think of Mind Your Business but on a grander scale. I would take on entrepreneurial clients who need help and use my knowledge to their advantage. Furthermore, Mind Your Business would play into that dream as a feature point of my business.

I am a very intelligent and determined woman, despite hurdles I’ve faced. I truly believe I would be successful.
