4/16/25—I am grateful for the local SBDC & my mentor!
Let me start by saying that I do not like asking for help!
I am stubborn. Very stubborn. I will make all the mistakes and learn from experience long before I ask for help. Usually.
When I first started Stitched Delights by Angela LLC, that is what I was doing. I was arrogant and decided I knew best.
Over time, as I progress through my BSB, I realized that I do understand a lot. I also learned that it is okay to find resources that can fill gaps. There are many resources for people in need of help.

The lovely mentor they connected me with is a blessing. She works at a large college in-state and offers support through the SBDC to people like me. There are a few highlights I want to note about our meeting yesterday:
- She was excited to learn that I have an educational background in business!
- We discussed business moves on an even playing field. She did not undermine my knowledge, unlike people from my past. I felt respected.
- She gave me one of the highest compliments I have ever received. She joked, after explaining I want my DBA, that I would be doing her job someday!
- She recently learned how to knit for her own mental wellness! In that respect, she understands the purpose of Stitched Delights!
I was anxious going into our meeting. I thought she would think I was ignorant. What I received from her was the exact opposite.
One of the biggest rules of thumb in business: if you do not know something, find a mentor who does. This can be done through networking, like on LinkedIn, or by using local resources. Which, the SBDC is my local resource.
