Nothing is worse than starting a business and burning out early.
It happens, though.
When starting a new business, often you are your entire team. There is no one to pass some responsibility off to. Without the team to help you get ahead, it can feel like the world is on your shoulders. The longer it stays that way, the more it burns to hold.

Thankfully, there are options. Most startups work with a shoestring budget, but that does not erase your chance to delegate. Try:
- Find independent contractors within your price range. You see, you’re not the only entrepreneurial professional. If you know where to look, there are people with specialized skills out there. Places like Upwork and Fiverr have many options at various price ranges. These are people just like you. Sometimes you can find a true gem that you’d hire again in the future.
- Find work-for-testimonial professionals. People who offer specialized skills are often struggling just as much as you. They have the added layer of needing credibility, but have no starting point to work with. If you have a small project to delegate, look for people who simply wish to build their credibility. Often, they are willing to do a little work for a testimonial in return. This can create a professional bond in which you learn from each other, too!
- Bring on an intern. College students are a great source of skills. Delegating to someone fresh from school allows you to relieve stress while offering them real-life experience. This is not only a win-win. You’re building a potential bond. Helping others can come back in the most unexpected ways.
I’ve been that independent contractor with tenacity. I am that college student. From personal experience, I know how far we will go to build on our capabilities.
Don’t discount your options. Just know there are options at a discount.
Have you looked at independent contractors for your business needs?
I’d love to hear how you delegate on a shoestring budget.
