Now the Discussion

I signed up for grocery delivery to limit pain, initially. I am a huge fan of avoiding more pain than is necessary. I also have social anxiety and, honestly, who wants the crowds?

Well, initially it was grocery pickup for those reasons. Then this happened:

Over a year ago, I suddenly couldn’t carry heavy things up the stairs. It was not only related to pain. Now I live with dyspnea. I struggle to breathe just climbing those steps! I have to see specialists as we try to figure out why.

This created a new hurdle, and I was especially fond of their willingness to place my groceries on the porch. I even need a walker when I actively go in a store as it is.

Either way, I had problems and needed a solution.

Yesterday, I ordered groceries with a dinner plan in mind.

It is a slow cooker meal, and I realized we were out of butter at 8 am this morning…

Guess who had to request a butter delivery that would deliver within the next three hours? Yes, me.

I’ve been finding that delivery goes beyond aiding my physical capabilities. It has also helped me get things I need while I am working. I don’t have time to run to a store today. Hence, the slow cooker meal.

Delivery means I can receive the healthy foods I need. This service saves me time that would otherwise be spent on shopping. I can use this saved time to focus on my business, school, and other important tasks.

As a feature, I post about “Angela’s Journey.” I am trying to get healthy so I can reduce many of these physical ailments. Quick fast food delivery does not aid in a healthier lifestyle. Quick grocery delivery does mean I can cook healthy meals without losing valuable work time.

I won’t lie, though. Someday, when Walmart notifies me that Jesus is shopping for me, it won’t be a kind Mexican gentleman. It will be the historical man himself coming to take me into the afterlife.

    You do delivery, and you are so blessed. I used to be able to order deliver straight to my door in Chicago. Now, I love the Walmart and Target online order feature, where I just have to pull up to a sign, and they bring my orders out. :) I’m not a big fan of stores, either.
    I love online orders and delivery. Wish we had delivery here.

      Our town is the county seat, but I assure you, it is medium to small. We do not have Uber, but we do have DoorDash and Instacart. I guess we are just big enough to have some benefits, lol.

      I am sure you know US 12, being from Chicago, and that road goes through the middle of my town. It helps because it gives us enough people around here to get things like that, lol. I live over in Coldwater, Michigan. It is common for people around here to take a day trip to Chicago.

      Ironically, the store is less than half a mile from my house. It has more to do with my physical ability to carry things than location. It does make delivery a little faster, though. My frozen is still frozen. 😂

        Oh man! US-12 is a nightmare to drive. There are so many accidents on that road. Yes, I know it well because we deal with it when we’re out in certain areas of the burbs.
        It’s a racetrack. lol.

        I had no idea how close Michigan really was to Chicago until I took my mom to Frankenmuth for that Christmas store years ago. It’s fairly easy to get to.

        I wish we had Door dash and Instacart in our small town. They have it in the bigger city 30 minutes away, but by us – nothing.
        Someone said our delivery drivers use to get robbed a long time ago, so they stopped coming up this way.
        No idea how true that is, but ti sucks no longer having wine delivered straight to my door, like I had in Chicago. haha.

          You say this and I am here thinking, “Well, good, I got that prescription ready for delivery this afternoon…” 🤣 I usually go to Walgreens for prescriptions but my doctor office sent the script to the wrong pharmacy. Thank goodness they now offer prescriptions to be delivered. I stopped using Walmart because the line to pickup was so long and they stopped curbside for prescriptions.

          I was bummed because I cannot stand in the line for as long as they are. Walgreens has a drive-thru that makes my life a bit easier.

          On this side, US 12 isn’t bad. However, I have been a passenger through Chicago (my dad was a trucker). There is a reason I just take the toll road around when I go see family in DeKalb. 😂

            I just asked where your family is from, and you just answered me without knowing it. LOL. DeKalb! I haven’t been around that way for a long time.
            I used to love driving the burbs.
            The toll road? Hell no! :) I try to stay away from there as well. I like to avoid the highways as much as possible.
            When I was in for my grandma’s wake and funeral, we took the highway to the wake that Monday and with construction and so many cars racing around each other, it gave me anxiety.
            The day of the funeral, I took the streets all the way there, and I didn’t regret it.

            As for prescriptions, I love Walgreens for their drive thru. It totally makes life easier.
            We had a pretty bad thunderstorm here yesterday, and I ordered a few things for dinner from Target, and they cancelled their online pickup – saying it was too dangerous for their workers to come outside.
            I ended up having to go in and the line there was long, so I absolutely understand not wanting to go in and wait.

            Our walk-in clinic here has a Pharmacy right inside, so if someone is prescribed something, the doctors can usually have it sent straight to the Pharmacy and that’s right when you’re walking out the door.
            It’s beautiful. lol

            Our E.R. has a big machine that actually dispenses meds with a code.
            Technology has come such a long way.

            With the exception of the semi that tried to drive into my car going to Ypsilanti for the dentist, I prefer freeways. I think it is because no one is driving toward me on the same road. I have really bad anxiety over small roads and in-town driving. The Michigan left upsets the heck out of me. So do roundabouts. Ick. The Florida U-Turns also freak me out. I don’t freak out about Semi’s, though. My dad taught me all the blind spots, etc.

            I really do want to go see them. I like DeKalb, it is a beautiful area. My Aunt and Uncle have been there for a long time, before I was born. Uncle Gerry had a shop he owned, too.

            Oh no! I’m glad you’re okay. Semis freak me out. Especially on the drive to Chicago because once we hit I-94 – Semi’s like to drive up on my bumper before they switch lanes and my kids laugh when I yell – “ARE YOU GOING TO STOP?”. lol. Of course, not at them, but more to the air – I guess.
            I hate Semi’s – AND the ones that do drive at a good distance safely, they make me wish I had a good amount of money to hand those drivers $100 to reward them for their great distance. :)

            DeKalb is beautiful. I’ve been there a few times. Over the years, it seems to have a little more crime, but hopefully it doesn’t get too bad.
            Even the area I grew up in – in Chicago – Jefferson park – has become wild in the last year or so. It’s sad.
            I do hope you get to go and enjoy it fully.

          Darn it, talking about it made me want to go see my aunt and uncle. 😂 I just messaged to ask if they have a weekend day where I could come in to visit as a day trip. My cousins are around Illinois as well. With enough warning, I bet they would get everyone together and I could see them all.

            If you’re ever in IL. at the same time that I’m going, we should def. meet up for coffee or lunch. That would be fun!
            Do take tons of photos if you go, and have the best time!
            I always enjoy seeing family whenever I go out there. I just wish it was all at once! <3

            I can’t wait to see some great photos. I miss home dearly. If you go – you should try for July. I’ll be out there for a Christmas in July get together my aunt and uncle are having. :)
