Angela,
OMG, I had to subscribe to your blog after reading about your journey through brain fog and pain as well. Your words about hyperfocus transitions causing anxiety hit me—I’m still learning those tricks too.

I wanted to speak up because I needed to get something meaningful from all my hurt. My journey:

• Went from thinking I had no issues
• Those needing CPAP, surgery, or medication trials
• Until my dad said, “Wow, your cognition has returned.”
• Like Spark* says, not every story is the same exercise that we can tolerate with the guidance of our providers, in whatever form, and as minimal as it is, it brings about some benefit, usually for our conditions
• I still battle chronic illnesses (ADHD, autism, migraines, narcolepsy, hypertension, etc.), but now I have thriving moments

What’s helping me:
• AI breaks down overwhelming tasks (my wife’s insight—great for executive function issues)
• Choose privacy-conscious AI platforms. One example is Claude, but feel free to explore; there are many
• New York (where we currently reside for the time being) has AccessVR for coaching/support
• Every state has vocational rehabilitation services: https://rsa.ed.gov/about/states
• Healthcare workers: OpenEvidence is free with NPI# (HIPAA-compliant, but can make stuff up—UpToDate still best for clinical decisions)
My faith: if something has been given to me (by a higher power, in this case, Jesus Christ), it will be. If not, it will fall away. I won’t strive, but I will do my best.
I give my faith, community, friends, coaches, and providers all the glory. I’m just here on the ride.

  ChatGPT and I are besties, lol. I found ways to get through the class textbooks by listening to the content each week. I also have ChatGPT create a summary of my unfiltered notes, so they are organized for easy review throughout the week and for reference during my classwork.
  
  I have advanced degenerative disc disease in my lumbar and venous insufficiency in my legs, so I set a move timer that reminds me to stretch and walk around every 45 minutes. If I don’t, my back locks up. It also helps me transition out of hyperfocus when I am working.
  
  Once I fall too deeply into hyperfocus, I can forget all time and existence. It is just me and the task at hand until suddenly it has been 4 hours, I’m stiff as a board, and people are wondering if I died in my bedroom “corner office”. 😅
